Here's a picture that is part of my inspiration. It is the Queen's Megaron (or great hall) in the palace of Knossos. It's incredible to think that these beautiful frescoes (albeit with restoration) were painted about 3,500 years ago.
After a lot of consideration, I've committed to The Servants of Illuyanka as my next major writing project. I'm going to be mysterious for a while, and only say that part of the story takes place on various islands in the Aegean Sea at the end of the Bronze Age. You know, the age of the Trojan War, Theseus, the Minotaur, and the Labyrinth of Crete.

Wow. Seven months. That's pretty sad. Last July I took on more responsibilities at work and since then I've basically taught grammar, or alternatively, thought about teaching grammar. Once, I even had a dream about teaching grammar.
I did a bit of writing during November on a nice little Gothic tale. But after the New Year, I had to set it aside (why will have to wait for another post). Honestly, as January turned into February, I began to think the Muses had abandoned me for good. Thankfully, I was wrong. A couple days ago, they came back to me. A story I've been fiddling with, took off. It isn't a flood, but things are moving along with an effortless flow. That's the best way I can describe it. It's a feeling I haven't has in a while – a long while. For the moment, I'm calling it The Servants of Illuyanka. |
